Rough idle/stalls

I have a 1990 f150. It developed a rough idle on cold start up which progressed to rough idle and stalling all the time. It will only stay running when I keep on the gas.I was told that it could be a battery problem so I replaced it. Before I replaced the battery it ran ok at highway speeds, now after the battery replacement it sputters at highway speeds. Any ideas?

It is probably the idle air controller whcih is the silver thing on top of the intake plenum. Remove and clean it. It is a little better but not right buy a new one Good Luck
