Fuel pump situation

I have a 1994 F-150 4x4 with 190K miles and dual tanks The front tank fuel pump won't engage(no noise when I turn key) but the rear does(make noise) but won't start the truck. The front worked until today and I have never used the rear tank until I tried today. Both have fuel but the rear might be contaminated through idleness (or unstable) Any thoughts other than replace tank?

Drop the tank and take out the pump have it tested to see if it runs. If all is well disconect line before the fuel filter and if gas comes out there then you know it is either the fuel filter or something engine related. Pumps have the chance of burning up if they run out of gas as they are gas cooled.

Could also be the switch to change the tanks over from one to the other. Or wiring problem in that circuit.
