I have a 1997 ford f150 xlt s/cab 4wd 5.4l v8 with 159,500 miles. About 2 weeks ago I was on the road and my engine just stoped, I pulled over and started it back up with no problem. I replaced the fuel filter to see if that was the case and today it did it again and now I can't even start the truck. I'm not sure if it is the fuel filter or not but please someone help.

is there a check engine light on or any trouble codes?

Check for spark at #1 spark plug, if nothing then post back and well go through the steps to find out what is wrong.

If you have bright blue sparks at #1spark plug then check for fuel at the fuel rail, If nothing once again post back and well go through the steps to find out what is wrong with it.

ok i changed the fuel pump today and the truck still won't start. Now i checked the fuses and there is a blown "pcm power" or pmc im not sure if that has something to do with it.

my check engine light never came on. might be a bad bulb. i haven't did the diagnostic test yet for codes but i will give more info tomorrow.

Did it happen when you hit a bump in the road because I am having the same problem with a 2004 5.4L F-150.

no, but this is what i fixed today. what i did was under the dash on the passengers side, there is a little blue box with two plugs t(his is your computer). I unplugged it and put in a new fuse. It cranked and it worked fine. I know it is going to shut down again because there is probably a short circuit somewhere. so any more ideas that would be great.

I TAKE THAT BACK

i just cranked it up for about 20 min. and i test drove it and i guess when the motor heated up the engine shut back off and the pcm fuse was blown so it is probably a bad computer im not sure need help bad!!!

that little blue box is the air bag module. i made a mistake.
