2000 Ford F-150 odometer problems

My odometer digits were flickering on anfd off, and this could be helped by tapping the plastic cover. It is now blank permanently. How do I fix it. Also will such a malfunction affect my inspection sticker process? What will the repair cost be?

How good are you with electrical?

If not, Ford dealer will charge either to repair or replace with replacment about $550 with cluster and labor, repair about $250-$300
