My truck cranks slow almost like the engine is locked up. But I can turn the crank w/ a breaker bar, I replaced the starter and the batery and checked the contacks all the way through.I even crossed the selonoid and thats not the problem, the air conditioner compresser was making noise before the problems started and stopped cooling

If you remove the AC belt, does it crank any faster?

First, thanks for the positive feedback. Second, let me know what you find. Just out of curiosity, were there any shims on the old starter?

Let me know.

No there were no shims. But I got bored and went out and pulled the belt off. It started right up.I woulda thought if the airconditioner pump froze the pulley would just free spin as if it wasnt on(esp. When it wasnt)but I guess not It is frozen and the serpintine belt is stronger then the starter!Hehe oh well more work for tommrow then, ty for the feedback an keep it in mind if ya know anyone w/ an older ford.

The bearing went out in the compressor. Therefore, regardless if the clutch was engaged or not, it wouldn't turn. It needs replaced, but I think you already know that.

You mentioned an older Ford truck. I wish I had one that new (LOL). I drive a 93 Dakota with 221K on it. It won't die, and I refuse to spend 20+K on a new truck.

As far as the compressor, check the salvage yards. They were loaded with vehicles like that from the cash for clunkers. I know you'll find a good one for cheap.

Let me know if you have other questions and thanks for using 2carpros. Com
