My son just got this truck; 1996 ford f150 5.0 L v8 4x4 w/ auto trans.
At idle the oil pressure guage jumps about an 1/8th inch up and down 1/4 inch total movement. This occures in the normal operating range. If gas is pressed or when driving the gauge moves up in the range and stays steady.
What is going on?

Thanks

Is the engine reving up and down and shaking?

Or is it a normal steady idle.

You may have a faulty oil pressure sensor. But to be safe you might want to take it in and have them check the pressure of the system unless you have the proper tools but they are not cheap.
