I have a Ford Explorer that begins to vibrate between 55 and 70 mph. At times it can become somewhat violent. The tires have been rebalanced but the problem still exists. I had a mechanic do a visual check of the front end and he says it looks good with the exception of the left upper ball joint that has a torn boot but it is still in good shape.

Hi cdykes. Welcome to the forum. Check for the presence of a steering damper between the frame and steering linkage. It looks like a shock absorber except it moves hard in both directions instead of just one direction. Sometimes they can be diagnosed as defective by oil leaking from the end where the shaft extends, but it is also possible for them to not work and there are no signs of leaked oil.
