2005 Ford Expedition trouble adding fuel

When fueling up, with tank very low on fuel or half full, while filling, the nozzle on the gas pump will stop as if it is full. I can only put in a half gallon, even going slow and it continues to back up the fuel to the nozzle, stopping the pump. It will do this at least ten times in an attempt to put in $30.00 worth of gas in the tank

There is a breather hose that runs along the filler tube. It allows air to escape from the tank while fuel fills it. Check to make sure it isn't damaged or plugged.
