Transmission problem
2005 Ford Expedition V8 Automatic 120, 00 miles

I bought a 2005 expedition a year ago and my transmission gave out so I paid for a new one. Now my starter gave out, so I also purchased that but when I went to get my starter fixed the mechanic said now I need a flexplate that it will cost me $650. I just spend $3,000 for transmission and starter, but my question is if my flexplate was shot out wouldnt he noticed that while putting in new transmission? And wouldnt he replace it while fixing my transmission or at least notify me? Well I purchased my starter a day ago now my car wont start it is still at a parking lot?

Hi there, A flex plate is not normally replaced with transmission, it is Not even removed from the engine, if there was a starter issue when the trans was done, then I would expect a mechanic to inspect the flex plate, often if the teeth on the flex plate are worn, it is not that easy to see even when doing a starter, but normally you can hear the problem with incorrect tooth engagement and then the plate would be inspected, but as the transmission must be removed to replace it, that is why the Cost is so high, was there any sign of starter problems with the transmission work was done?

If the starter started tom act up after the transmission was done, then there is not much to be done about it, with the transmission job the starter is just unbolted and it sit there loose, and as I said the flex plate is not touched, so if there was no starter issue prior to the transmission problem, this s just really very bad timing.
