I've been experience this odd sound coming from the rear, it only happens when I slowly brake, or I'm moving in less than 30mph zone. When I drive on the highway you never hear it. So far two mechanics have said it's the rear differential and that I need a new clutch. Is this true? They said that I can go for a little while without fixing it.

Yes this can be the problem. Have you tried to service it with an additive?

Yeah the mechanics have tried some sort of friction modifier, but the sound still exists. So that's why they are saying I need the rear clutch. In researching it on schucks, there's another name for it, looks like a pumpkin head.
