1997 Ford Escort rough idle over heating

Car idles rough when started, as you dive it down the road the temp starts to go up and when you stop at a light the temp gos down. It also has a loss of power on take off.

Have it chemical tested for a blown head gasket. Sounds like it is gone. Does the fan cycle ok? Usually head gaskets will overheat when driven, but can remain cool when the engine isnt under load
