Engine Performance problem
1990 Ford Bronco V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Engine rpms race then die. Recently had the throttle balance sensor replaced, it corrected the problem for about three weeks. Then it returned and continues to get worse. They also replaced a computer. A little more than a year ago there was an electrical fire, but was told everything checked out. Problems began to develop about 6 months afterwards. Unsure whether there was a tie. Love the vehicle, but at my wits end.

Hi:
I need you to check for a couple things. First, check closely for vacuum leaks. Listen to see if you can hear any hissing from hoses. Be careful to stay away from the fan and any moving parts. Next, have the computer scanned for codes. Many parts stores will do it for free and it may direct us to the problem. Finally, I question the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) but without a code, that is a guess. Make sure the EGR isn't leaking, stuck or carboned to a point it doesn't work.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
