Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Ford Aerostar 6 cyl Automatic 112, 00 miles

I have a 96 aerostar it was getting water from in the oil someone told me to put this repair stuff in my radiator that it would fix it it seemed to for a while but then it started running like crap and within half a mile of the motor making a noise it died. Motor locked up. I found out that was what could happen if you put that stuff in it. I asked how to fix it correctly but noone would tell me. Now im stuck with no van. I bought a motor for it but they say ihave to have a special tool to set the timming. I can't find the tool. The only ford dealer near me went out of busness. So my question is where do I find this tool and when I get the motor put in and set will I have to worry about what happened before with the water.

Hi:
It sounds like you had a head or intake gasket problem. If water continued getting in to the oil or if you never changed it, that is what caused the engine to lock.

As far as the new one, unless it has the same problem as your old one, it should be fine. Did you get a warranty with it? Also, timing an engine requires a timing light unless the distributor was removed. A timing light is a very common tool and not hard to find.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Joe
