Hi all, I am not much of a car guy and I am having an interesting situation with my old 2001 saturn l200 that has auto transmission and 140000 miles on it. It was working just fine till this morning when waiting at a stop light the light turns green and I start pressing the gas it just sat there and revved the engine but no power going to tires. I had to push the car to the side of the road. I shut off the car and waited maybe 5 minutes and then started back up, again started fine engine not sputtering and when I shifted into drive it started to go but was getting hardly any acceleration even though I was revving up to 3 to 4000 rpm. I know it isn't the catalytic converter cause the person who had the car before me apparently removed it. I also tried putting the car through all the gears but in any forward driving gear it just has no acceleration. It almost acts like it is stuck in a higher gear for no reason. It works in reverse fine and I have run the code scanner but it is coming up with no codes. The engine light is on now when it wasn't before today.

I found out that my car is leaking transmission fluid and that I somehow cracked my transmission fluid pan. I was using an OBD2 scanner and it was attempting to read the codes and was coming back with no codes, not an error. Also took it to autozone and had them scan as well and they got no codes either. I have ordered a new pan and filter and gasket for the car and am waiting on them to come in.

Like I stated I am not very good with repairing cars but any help would be appreciated.

The scan tool you used and autozone uses are diyer scan tools and always dont pick up all the codes and read all the computers your car has.I wish it wasn't so I would have saved a ton of money on the scan tool I bought. Perfect example I have a pocket scan tool a diyer one scan a 2007 mazda 3 with the check engine light on. It came up no codes I scanned it with my otc gensisys professional scan tool and got two transmission codes. The fluid level is a bit difficult to check since there is no dipstick. Also if there are no leaks then the fluid level isn't even a issue. We have to start a open dialog check things etc I cant check anything or see anything from my end.

Just wanted to let you know that I did replace the transmission fluid pan and filter and fluid and the car started working just fine again. A new problem has arisen just yesterday but not seeming to be engine or transmission related. The car runs fine but for some reason randomly the car's service light will come on with no problems running, but when the light turns on the fans/ vents turn off, the ac, defrost, and air circulation buttons then do not work at all. Checking the engine codes bring up code p0742 01 and when you clear the code or if you tilt the wheel up and then back down the vents turn back on and all other buttons work like normal. Any new thoughts?

So your moving the steering wheel/ steering column and everything starts working? If so you could have a bad ignition switch or the wires going to the ignition switch could be bad. Or a loose terminals to the ignition switch. I would start by chasing down the problem with the ac controls fan turning off etc. Then see if the code p0742 comes back.

I will tilt the wheel up and then tilt it back down and vents/fans start working, ac, defrost, and circulate air buttons start working. Also after I do that the service light goes back off.

Your going to have to get into the steering column and see whats going on probably the main wire feeding power to the ignition switch has the copper wire broken inside the insulation. I belive the wire is red or orange the yellow wire is the starter feed. It will be one of the biggest going to the ignition.
