I bought this truck new in 2002, and have kept it well maintained. I backed it out of the garage today to go to the store, and when I started up the road it is running rough and shaking, and the check engine is on and flashing. I immediately turned around and went back to the house. When I crank the truck it still runs rough and shaking with the check engine flashing . I plan to take it to a garage tomorrow and have them plug it in to see what codes come up, thanks.

Hello, I'm Danny.

It could just be something simple. The first thing is to have any stored engine codes scanned. If you don't have access to a scanner or code reader most auto parts stores have a tool loaner program and can rent you one. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/reduced-power-limp-mode

Once you have the code or codes read get back to us with the code information and we can then properly diagnose. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
