Welcome to 2CarPros.

Since the engine light is on, we need to retrieve the diagnostic trouble codes that are stored in the computer. This vehicle has an OBD1 system. You can get the codes with just a test light.

Here is a link that explains how to retrieve the codes. Do this and let me know what you find.
