1988 Ford Tempo Weird Check Engine Light Problem

My check engine light is not on when I start my car. I can drive for a little while and it won't come on. Then when I stop and let it idle for a while, the check engine light comes on and I dont understand why?

Ignore it! Unless it coincides with a detectable performance symptom? After all, it's just a computer indicator of a sensor inconsistency. It's NOT a warning your engine is gonna blow!
