Erratic idle between 7,000 and 8,000 rpm'. Also stutters pulling away like a dead spot. Also noisy when revving to go up gears increasing speed like an exhaust sound, but exhaust is okay

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

The RPM's you indicated are basically full throttle. Is that correct?

If you meant 700 to 800 rpm's check to determine if there is an engine vacuum leak. Here is a link that shows how.

If there are no vacuum leaks, next check would be the idle air control valve (IAC). The IAC is responsible for maintaining the engine idle speed. Here are general directions for removal and replacement. First, remove it and inspect if for excessive carbon build up. Also, check the throttle body where it mounts to make sure it is not partially plugged. Have a helper turn the key from off to on a few times while you watch for the pintle to actuate (move).

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
