A couple of days ago I was driving and my dashboard lights went out and then my headlights started flickering and then went out as well. After this my entire car died I changed the alternator and charged my battery and it will hold a charge. There is a dash light that has came on it looks like a clock gear with an exclamation point inside of it and it is flashing on and off my car won't turn over but all of the dash lights come on my radio will come on when I turn the key but when I go to crank it it won't do anything

Okay some basic help for you, the gear icon with exclamation point is for your transmission. ( A scan tool is required to pull a code for this )

The not starting issue can be broken down

Starter
Key
Ignition switch
Park/neutral safety switch

1st. Quickest test located the starter relay and while someone turns the key to try and start listen for an audible click( should be able to feel it too )

2nd. Locate the starter, make sure there are no lose connections follow the main leads from the starter positive and ground and make sure they are tight on both ends. If they are give it a few taps with the end of a screw driver on the side and try again.

3rd. Key - if you have more than one try a different one, if memory serves me it should be a chipped one, ( or even just flip the key over and try that) sometimes they do go bad.
