99 dodge ram check engine light/possible weak cylinder

i have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 5.9L v8 it has 136000 miles on it a cpl days ago the check engine light came on so i took it to the dealership to get checked out the olny thing i noticed was it ilded a lil rough once in a while but nothin major the dealership said that the failed part came back as a weak cylinder with that the # 5 cylinder has a misfire and dead hole they never ran a compression test so can they really dertime that this is all true and if not what can i do to find out whats wrong

Hi there,

You should get a comp test done just to prove the value of that cyl. All moden tune up equipment use in work shops will give you a full read out on the ignition voltages so you can determin any fault in coils, leads or spark plugs, if all these are ok you will have to start looking into the fuel system, but don't always go looking for the hardest thing first, more often than not the problem is a faulty spark plug or ignition lead.
