Hello,

Was there an smoke coming out of the tailpipes?
When an engine overheats it can blow the head gasket. And when that happens you will have white smoke coming out of the tailpipes. This is the cause of coolant entering the engine which will burn and emit white smoke.
If the blown head gasket severe then the cylinders will be flooded with coolant and you won't be able to start the engine.
You will have to get the head gasket repaired and flush the engine before it can be driven.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
