When I try to start the engine, it turns over and will try to start but then idles very slowly and erratically for a second or two and then eventually dies out. Sometimes it will only turn over without starting at all. When it does this I've sprayed starting fluid into it and it starts immediately, but then dies again. It seems to me like it could be a fuel problem. I believe (although I am not sure) that a 2002 Dodge Ram does not have a fuel filter. So, should I start off by replacing the fuel pump and is it located in the tank, or are there some other avenues I should try first?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

-Thanks!

98% you need a fuel pump
fuel filter is part of the fuel pump module
try to give the middle of the fuel tank a good tap or few while a helper trying to start and that may get it started and if it does that make it 100% its the fuel pump
check fuses and relay too
