Recently, I have noticed that the needle on the temperature gauge is going past the half way point. I turn the car off for ten minutes and the needle goes back to starting point. After I start the car, the radiator fan comes on and the car shakes. The car does not over heat and the needle fluctuates between the 1/4 point and the 3/4 point. Is this a problem that I should be checking on or is this normal?

At 86,000 miles, absolutely, you should be concerned, have a good look at the level in the overflow resevoir. Only take the radiator cap off, if it is completely cold. It may, or may not be serious. But heat, unregulated, will destroy your engine and transaxle. I hope its just an electrical sensor or thermostat, but these engines are made to last about 60 or 70,000 miles, before needing some type of cylinder head gasket service. After a test, you'll be sure, and have a better picture of what you will need. Good luck, if you need help with any decisions or a place to have it tested, let me know. Ok
