Transmission problem
1993 Dodge Dakota V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 239K miles

I'm going to replace the front pump seal in my transmission. I've got everything taken loose and a jack under the trans. Pan. I am having trouble getting the trans. Dipstick out of the tran. Can you give me any advice on getting it out without damaging it? Also, can you give me advice on removing trans. Replacing front seal and replacing tran. I am also replacing the rear main engine seal while I have the trans. Out. Any advice on replacing that would be greately appreciated.

Thank you,
David

Dave:
Unbolt the trans dipstick and it should pull out from the housing. There is just an O-ring there. As far as the front seal, it is just a remove and replace job. However, make sure to coat the rubber portions of the seal with a thin coat of ATF before insalling everything. NEXT, most front pump seal failure is due to a grooved or damaged torque converter. Check where the converter goes into the seal to make sure it isn't damaged or worn. Otherwise, you'll be removing it again.

Let me know if you have other questions.
Joe
