2002 Dodge Cara Van Sport. 101000 miles and still strong. The other day, this just started out of the blue. When turning the right turn signal on while in Park, the acutator that allows you to put it in gear once you depress the break, moves up and down to the rythem of the flasher, but only when turning to the right. Also, the left tail light blinks as well. This happens when the 4 way flashers are on (moves the gear shift release acuator up and down). The lights function normally for the 4 ways. The Left Turn signal is not adversly effected. I called the Dodge dealer and he said carry out price for that module, FCM, Front Control Module, needs replaced. $300 for just the part. The book tells me there is a DRL/Combination Flasher Module on the left side of the sterring column. I can't find the Flasher module. Can this really be in the FCM? Why is the book telling me there is a seperate Flasher Module that runs the turn signals/ 4 ways and daytime running lights. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I purchased this Caravan in 2003, I negotiated a towing package with the dealer. A reputable business installed the package and light connections. I had a suspicion that the rectangle block may have failed, so I removed it. And YES! That was the problem. After speaking to the business, he said that he has only have one other block fail in the past 35 years of installing them, and he replaced it at no charge.
Needless to say, I took the Dodge dealers word in suggesting what could be at fault, and I replace the FCM, (found one on a wrecked Caravan for $35, but obviously that didn't solve the issue). So now I have an extra FCM. I do consider myself lucky, I did have an appointment scheduled to do a full electrical diagnostic of the van, which would have set me back $150, plus a rental for the day. WHEW!

Thought for the day. Don't forget to overlook the obvious!
