Originally computer showed car needing 2 O2 sensors. Mechanic replaced the right sensor without problem. The left O2 sensor will not communicate with the computer.

The mechanic was unable to figure out the resolution to this issue. I have 10 days extension on my inspection.

Any recommendations on how to proceed with getting this resolved?

Thanks.

Have the wiring checked between O2 and PCM. Also check to see if O2 is produceing a signal voltage.

Do you know if this wire path passes through the harness that is located beneath the left front fender?
The car was recently in a crash that severed these wires and the harness was replaced. Could it be one of these wires?
Thanks.

Not sure of the exact path but that would be th place to start. If the harness was not replaced but repaired that will cause too much resistance in the circuit thus giving non com error.

I am now being told that the computer needs to be replaced. Is this likely? If the computer was bad, wouldn't other issues be present?

What is the cost of a computer for a 1999 Dodge Caravan?

It is a possiblilty. If all circuits checked out then the PCM failure is the likely conclusion.
Was the van repaired? Or just the harness?
I think your PCM is located on the left check out location. Maybe be wreck related.
