I am looking for information on my distributor. The van was running fine the day I drove it but, after work it would not start. The fuel pump is working and I have fuel pressure. Could the problem be inside the distributor?

Good afternoon.

Yes, the coil is inside the cap. I attached a picture for you below.

I would suggest checking the rotor and cap first. The rotor is common for burning inside.

Beyond that, I would suggest replacing the distributor if you have no spark. I attached a guide for checking for a spark for you.

Hello,

So does the engine cranks but not start?

Have you got a chance to check for spark? If there is an issue with the distributor or the coil you might not have spark. It can also be triggered by a faulty rotor.

The coil is located inside the distributor cap (see diagram below). Inspect the components for any corrosion. Sometimes moisture can get inside the cap and fault out the coil.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

It could be but it could be multiple other items like a failed crank sensor or blown fuse or injectors not working. What does it do when you turn the key? Spin over nice and even but does nothing? A quick test to see if it's fuel related would be to spray some brake cleaner or starting fluid into the intake and see if it fires, if it does you have spark. If not then pull a plug wire off and attach it to a spark tester and see if you have spark. On those vehicle the more common failure is the ignition module inside the distributor. The test for that is in the second image.
