Hi there, I have a question: I want to add catalytic converter cleaning fluid to my fuel I know I have to reset computer to get rid of engine light off. How long can I drive to check the codes (if any) I will still have without engine light showing again. I'm just trying to pass inspection without failing. Thank you

Good afternoon,

There is no fluid that will clean the catalytic converter. The reason the light comes on is the precious metals inside the converter are worn out and the converter is not cleaning the gases from the engine.

You need to replace the converter if you want to pass inspection.

I provided the procedure below for you for the repair.

FRONT EXHAUST PIPE (INCLUDING CATALYTIC CONVERTER)
1. Remove the front exhaust pipe from the center exhaust pipe.

2. Remove the front exhaust pipe bolt and the exhaust manifold pipe mounting nuts.

3. Remove the front exhaust pipe from the rubber hanger.

INSPECTION
1. Check the mufflers and pipes for leaks, corrosion and damage.
2. Check the rubber hangers for deterioration and cracks.

INSTALLATION
1. Temporarily install the front exhaust pipe, the catalytic converter assembly, the center exhaust pipe and the main muffler, in this order.
2. Install the rubber hangers so that they hang equally left and right.
3. Tighten the parts securely and then confirm that there is no interference with any components.

Yes I do understand. But still if I add fluid what the diagnostic computer can register? That is my main question. Thank you.

It will not make a difference at all.

No scan tool is better than another that will make the issue go away.
