Car has been overheating periodically, although cools itself when I slow down or stop.
Water has oil in it, inside of bottle is very black.
Oil is very thin, oil change light on.
Has not lost power though.
Only 5 years old with 73000 miles on the odometer.
Car is a Toyota Auris SR 180 2.2 LTR. D-CAT.
2231cc engine.

I would be checking for a head gasket problem first and get the radiator cleaned as the oil in the coolant will be coating the core tubes and reducing the cooling efficiency due to blockage.

There is no such thing as a magic fix in a can, they just don't work.

Thank you, nose back to the grindstone then.
Plenty of adverts for it though.

This stuf and other products like it work on creating a blockage in the gasket, it may hold of a very short time or just slow it down a little, but in the end it will still need fixing properly, if a radiator additive is used to stop a combustion leak, most of it ends up blocking the radiator and often it requires a new radiator as well as getting the head fixed.

Hi, thank you for all your advice.
Since we last spoke I have car booked into a main Toyota dealer, who is going to replace the engine.
Happy days are here again!

Ronnie.
