I was wondering if anyone can help me! I have the vehicle listed above Tempest model. It is driving me crazy! It keeps cutting out whilst I am driving, all the dials go down and electrics go off but sounds like the engine is still on. When I turn the key to start it back up it makes a terrible grinding noise (like the one when you turn your engine on forget and do it again). It also does not start every time when it is stationary. I am too scared to take it on any long journeys encase it does it on the motorway. Unfortunately when the mechanic has had it it would not fault! We have tried everything we can think of to make it fault ie; driving faster over speed bumps, using all the electrics at once, driving in to low/high a gear and it would not do it. Checked the battery connections (which is new), fuel injectors and the sparks and everything looks fine. There are no warning lights.
Sorry for the long post. Can anyone help? Thank you!

Hi Megan,
From symptom description it seems the engine did not cut off. The dash/meter electrical system was interrupted.
I need to ask a few questions to understand the problem better.
1. When problem occurred, what vehicle speed were you driving at and in what gear position/range?
2. Usually it occurs after how much driving time (How long after engine had been started)?
3. You mentioned engine seems still running when indicators failed, did the vehicle pull or drags to slow down, were you able to accelerate or there was no response from pedal?

Hi there,
Thanks for reply!
It can happen at any time normally at thirty mph and fourth gear but it has happened at ten mph in second and forty mph in fifth. It is so random when it happens.

Normally occurs after five to ten minutes of driving, but yesterday it did it when I was reversing after just starting the car. But again its happened at random times. Does not seem to be a pattern.

Does not pull or drag, just turns off and no response from accelerator pedal. First time it happened I did not even realize until I tried to accelerate and nothing happened.
Hope that helps. Really appreciate your help!

This sounds like a crankshaft angle sensor, but we need to run the codes to see what comes up. Here is a guide to help you:

Check out the diagrams (below). Please run this test and get back to us.

Cheers, Ken
