I replaced the camshaft position sensor and still have the code P0340 and a no start issue. Car cranks but does not start. What are some diagnostic steps to find out what could be causing the problem?

First check if the camshaft is rotating. If the timing belt is broken, the cam sensor will not generate any signal pulses.

Ideally the best way to determine if signals are being developed is to connect a scanner and see if the engine computer is seeing those signal pulses.

Next is to perform some voltage tests. The sensors all share a common ground circuit so if that had a problem, you would have a lot more fault codes for those other circuits. The twelve volt feed is also common to many other sensors and solenoids. That leaves just the short length of wires from the splices to the cam sensor's plug. The splice could be corroded just enough that only one sensor is affected so far. That section of wire could be cut or rubbed through. More commonly a terminal in the plug is spread and not making good contact with its mating terminal.

Due to the nature of this circuit, a test light can be more accurate than a digital voltmeter, but you can use either one. Check for twelve volts on terminal three, the red wire at the cam sensor. Check the resistance from the ground terminal in the plug, to ground. That is the black/white wire. The last wire is the signal wire, terminal two. Its color is listed as "L-Y". I hope you can figure out what color "L" is. From the diagram, it appears if the plug is disconnected from the sensor, and the ignition switch is turned on, you should find 5.0 volts on that wire. If you do, that wire is okay.
