Clunking noise coming from front end while going over bumps. I have taken it in three times and the mechanic cannot figure out where the clunking is coming from. He has replaced control arms with ball joints, sway bar links, front outer tie rods and bushings. Now he thinks it might be my calipers, can calipers make a clunking noise? This clunking noise is driving me crazy!

Good morning.

One of the most common areas is the strut mounts. Did he check the struts?

That would have been the first place I would suspect.

Other areas such as cradle mounts, steering rack mounts are other possibilities.

No, if it was the calipers, you would have brake issues.

Sounds like you have a shop that is guessing on your dime and has no idea of what they are doing. I would go somewhere else for a second opinion.

Thank you very much for your response and time. One thing I did forget to mention is that the clunking is not persistent, one day I can barely hear it and the next day its so bad that I think my front end is going to fall apart. I am definitely getting a second opinion though.
