My sebring has developed what I think is an erratic shifting problem. It happens occasionally, on average once every couple of hours. It usually happens at 40-50 MPH, usually when accelerating after decelerating. It does not seem to be slipping - rather it feels like its shifting up-down-up-down-up-down about twice per second. I think it's the 3-4 shift. It lasts a couple of seconds then all is Ok. The check-engine light is sometimes on, sometimes not.
Any ideas?

Chances are there is a problem with a shift solenoid or the control module. WHat I need you to do is have the computer scanned. If the check engine light has been on, there should be a trouble code stored in the computer. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan it. Most will do it for free.

Ask then what code or codes they found and let me know what they tell you.
