Hi, The needle on my fuel gage is acting up. It moves back and forth very rapidly to where it's just a blur. I don't really know what would cause that to happen but I'm looking in the direction of the Fuel Level Sending Unit. Are my assumptions correct or do I need to look elsewhere?
If it helps, I have the Z71 model which is the older body style and it has the 350 engine ( 5.7)
If you could help in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Disconnect the connector for the fuel pump and turn the key on. Does pump show full or empty? Is it steady? Ground out the signal return for the harness. Whats it show now?

I'm sorry it has taken a while to get back to you. I have not had the chance to try what you suggested yet but it looks like I will have to drop the fuel tank to disconnect the pump unless you know of another way. But when I get a spare minute and when the tank is empty I will give it a try and let you know what I find out. I'm hoping to get to it this weekend though so check back around that time.
Thanks for your help and suggestions!

So I was not able to check it last weekend because the weather was bad and I will be busy this weekend. But there is new development, the fuel pump is now making a loud high pitched wine. It has been off and on but now it's beginning to be more often. Is this a good indication that the pump is going out?

A loud pump is usually a very good indicator of a issue with the pump going out. Not a definate sign but is a sign.

Your best bet is a fuel pressure check guage.
