For many months now the truck would have to be turned over three times prior to it starting. Yesterday at the dump, for the first time it would not start at all. For the last few months when the vehicle was turned off I could hear a hiss from around the fuel tank. At the dump this hiss was much louder. At the dump it finally started after about five minutes. I drove it home, lifted the truck bed to gain access to the fuel tank. At this time the hiss was back to it's normal sound. I pulled the fuel pump and found a small leak in the corregated tube running through the middle. Fuel was spraying through the hole hitting the inside of the fuel tank wall. This is what I thought was the hiss. I epoxied the hole and put the pump back in. The hiss is gone but the truck is still not starting. I can hear the whine of the pump when trying to start it. What is my next step? Replace the pump? Is there a part on the pump I can replace that is cheaper than the $200 for a new pump? Is the pump even the problem?

Hello,

You might have an issue with the fuel pressure regulator.
As you can hear the pump come on but not starting, you might not be getting proper fuel pressure and or volume to in injectors.

First test the fuel pressure regulator.

Here is a helpful article and video:

It still can be a weak pump, but you want to make sure of any other possibilities.

I have attached the diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
