I have a chevrolet 1500 that drives great at 177,000. I stopped for my routine check before a long trip to check the oil level and noticed there was milky foam on the dipstick. What are some symtoms I could check. Should I take it to a service center ASAP.

Sounds like water or engien coolant in the oil to me.

Probably due to a blown headgasket, taste the foam, if it has a sweet antifreeze taste then its antifreeze and should be taken into a service center asap.
