Clutch problems

2004 Chevy s-10 4 cylinder I replaced the clutch, Pressure Plate, Throwout Bearing and turned the fly wheel lightly approximately 30,000 miles ago at 110,000 miles & it worked fine but currently it feels like it is slipping. If you are cruising @ 45 to 55 MPH & press on the gas the tach will rev up higher than normal & then settle back down. You can hear the engine over Rev. I do not feel this is a clutch problem. Can you offer any other suggestions?

When you moving and in gear step down on the gas can you feel like it tries to move. Start with checking the clutch slave cylinder to see if it is releasing the pressure plate. Do you smell the cluch burning? With the clutch slipping it would be in the pressure plate or the clutch disc.

I really appreciate your reply & no I do not know if the slave cylinder is releasing the pressure plate. How do I check this? I do not drive aggressively so I do not smell any clutch burning. I would tend to agree with you about the pressure plate or disc however the previous one lasted 110,000 miles & this one has not been abused.

Thanks

On the drivers on the side of the bell housing there should be a bleeder valve, make sure the clutch resevoir is full then open the valve. Have someone gently push the clutch down a little and check to see if fluid comes out of the bleeder valve. It it does then the slave cylinder is releasing, You don't have to drive aggressively for the clutch to slip. From a stop put the car in second and let out the clutch. With it in second there is more torque to get the clutch to slip. If it does slip then the pressure plate or clutch is bad. If the car boggs down or stalls then the clutch is working.
