Thank you for your help! I have a 1999 Chevy S10 stick shift pickup that will start when the clutch is pushed in, and it will go into each gear including reverse, but the gears will not engage, so it will not move. You can hear it click into each gear. I towed it home, and noticed that when l was being towed l tried all the gears and they would not engage then either, but l also noticed that when l was being towed, and put it in reverse, that the gears did grind which made me think it was engaging in reverse. I had a friend look at it. He seems to think that it may be an internal transmission problem with some type of chain? That is inside the transmission. Thank you again for your help!

A quick check based on your symptoms is to inspect the rear differential. Power cannot be transmitted to the wheels if the gears are broken there. The fluid fill plug is towards the top and can be removed with a 3/8" socket wrench and 2" short extension, (no socket needed). Smell the plug. A burnt up rear end will have a very strong smell.

We can continue inspections if this does not prove beneficial.

Good luck.
