2001 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Automatic 126000 miles

I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden I felt the car lose power. It actually went dead and I had to coast off to the side. It wouldnt start back immediately. After about ten mins. It started back. I continued on my way home and about anther 10 miles it did the same thing, it went dead and I had to wait to start it back, and then I got it home. Help! What could it be?

Hello, you don't have a theft lite flashing when the problem occurs?

When the problem occurs, your saying it cranks good but won't start? You could do some basic tests when it refuses to start, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs and injector pulse.

Can you check for codes, some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.

You mean take it to a auto store and have it hooked up to one of those machine things?

Yes, they will probably just use a code reader, may not show anything. It's a start.

My Malibu had a problem very similar to yours. At first when it started stalling while driving at highway speeds it would let me start it back up in 10 minutes or so and continue on for a while. As the problem got more persistent it would take longer and longer to start back up. My problem was my fuel pump. So my guess would be that is what yours is also, but maybe not.
