BTW I'm living in NL, Canada so the "milage" is in Km.
The message center just came on & stays ON with a symbol (only in bilingual Canada according to the manual ) of a wrench inside of a car. According to my ever-so-poorly-detailed owner's manual this means I have take my car for a visit to the friendly local GM Service Technician who will charge me $60 - $100 just to look at it. Apparently, according to the manual, the problem is not serious enough to require immediate attention. However, I would like to know more detail about what this symbol means. I do not have a code reader so in order to diagnose the problem I suppose I will have to bring the car to the shop! The car seems to running normally. So how important is this message & should I attend to it ASAP or not?

Any time a light comes on I suggest getting it repaired so no further damage occurs. It could be a EVAP issure such as a loose gas cap. But you may have a false code also. In that case you will have to have the PCM reprogramed. Have it scanned at your local parts store and Ill take a look at the code for you.
