I have a 2001 impala w/ 133758 miles on it
in the past 8 months the temp gauge inside the car
stops working from time to time so the extra cooling (driverside)fan keeps running for about 5 min after I shut it off. I have had the temp sensor changed 3 times, plus all 4 relays, flushed out and new anti frezee put in. Each time this cured the problem for a short time but it keps happing now the
fans are begianing to make a noise. Each time this happens after driving it for a while the check engine light comes on. I have been told that the computer is no good what is the next step for me.

I see this was posted a long time ago, but if you still have the problem here's your solution: THERMOSTAT! Replace the thermostat and it should fix your problem. I had the same thing going on with my 01 Impala, did all the same stuff as you but nothing worked until I did the stat. Hope this helps.
