The engine light and "traction off" light on. It is an automatic but when the the car reaches approx. 60 kms/h the rpms are in the 4000's (if not higher). It seems to not be able to switch out of second gear. Their is also a slight coolant leak. Does anyone know what the problem could be? We think it's the throttle position sensor but we have not yet had it to a mechanic. Could the transmission be failing?

Hello,

It sounds like you might have an issue with the transmission shifting into the right gear.
It could be for having faulty shift solenoid. It could also happen if you are low on transmission fluid. Check the fluid level and make sure it is correct

Get your vehicle scanned for codes. This might point to what could be the issue.

This could be an issue with the transmission shift solenoid. There is a solenoid for 1-2 shift and other for 2-3 shift. The shift solenoids are electrical component that uses the pressure of the fluid to trigger the shift.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
