2002 Chevy Cavalier

Hi, the engine light for my car has been on for about a month now and in the last week I have noticed that it has not been accelerating properly. It revs really high when in second gear(automatic transmission) and the acceleration is really poor. Also sometimes I notice that the exhaust fumes smell. And When the AC is on I pretty much can't drive with it on because it will not accelerate fast enough for me to drive on the road with other cars. Could you please let me know what some possible causes could be?

We can talk all nigh long about possiblilities, but you need to start by pulling the codes from the computer to see what is going on. By description it sounds like a rich condition meaning too much fuel or not enough air.

Could it possibly be an oxygen sensor or the cadillac converter?
