Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1999 chevy cavalier with a 2.4l motor and is hesitating, or stuttering, my dad says it is my igniters but or coil, so I went to autozone and asked them how can I fix that problem and they said there was no such thing as igniters, and my dad has been working at ford for 15 year and im pretty sure he knows what he is talking about. So my question is does my cavalier have igniters, and how can I stop my car from stuttering

Check and test the following:

Oxygen sensor
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
