Heater problem
1997 Chevy Cavalier Front Wheel Drive Automatic 151000 miles

Hi there,
Today I found out that my heater/fan/a/c does not want to operate on the first (lowest) two fan settings - it now only operates at the two highest settings. At first I thought it might have been a fuse, but that didn't make sense because it should have shut the whole thing off if the fuse blew, not just the two lowest settings. Do you have any idea what might be the problem? I'd like to have the fan on without having to blast it at the two highest settings. PS If it makes any difference, the mileage is actually 151000km, not miles

Replace the blower motor resister. The lower resistors are burnt out. Its located in the heater box next to the blower motor. Good day

I just spoke to a mechanic about getting the blower motor resistor replaced (I totally messed up the name of it though) and he said it was probably the rheostat that needed replacing and that it would be about 150-200 installed. Does that sound right or should I push the blower motor resistor (or are they the sae thing?)?

Thanks!

Its called a blower motor resister. I would think a rheostat would be the switch but he could be talking about the same thing. Your quote is a little high. Call the dealer for a price on the part and pay no more that one hour labor.
