well I'm parked on a hill my car wont start. I had it face down on a hill when my timing was set. Got it started and it ran for a while in park. I pulled out when it started for a few feet and it did Ok I pulled backwards in the driveway it was fine but when i went to drive up the street soon as i hit the gas it shut off on me. It would start back up, but when i hit the gas it went nowhere. It shut right back off, it would start back up but still. Soon as i hit the gas it shut off, I had to pushed it back to my driveway now its facing upward on the hill and now it wont crank over (just sounds like as if the starter wont crank) but its not the starter just had it replaced with a new one, just said that as a example. so now it wont start and i have no clue on what to do. Can someone help me?

There could be several reasons why your 1991 Chevy Caprice is not starting, even after replacing the spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump, and charging the battery.

What do you mean, "Has a device you can use to start the car with"? Does the engine turn over, but not start? Or when you turn the key, does nothing happen? And finally, are the rest of your electrical accessories working?

I'll need to know this information before I can attempt to help you. To try without it, I would have to cover waaay too many areas.

Dunno what you did here-but verify valve and ignition timing put engine no.1 piston on its compression/TDC line the markings at the crank pulley TDC-open up the dist. cap and look if the rotor is pointing to the no.1 cap tower. If not its out of time.

Dose it attempt to fire? Need to determine if fuel or ignition. Next time it happens spray some carb cleaner in throttle body. If it fires then fuel system
Also check for spark pull plug wire see if it arcs to block. Let me know and will advise.

after it happened this rainy morning, I popped the hood and noticed that the conection between the air intake and the air filter was loose. I put in starter spray blocked the valve at the connection to the crankcase open ang the car fired up. ran all day started seceral times as if nothings wrong. go figure

Yes, it starts now irrelevant of the weather. Apparently I have some relay problem that only occassionaly prevents the gas from priming the engine, since the starter fluid got the car going. does that make sense?

More likely the loose air intake if air gets to throttle body without going past temp sensor and vortex the fuel will not be richened for cool damp conditions.

Let do below for a start to determine if its fuel or spark related issue and get back asap.

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

When i park my car on an uphill incline it does not want to start when i get back in it whereas when it is on a level or downhill slope it starts normally. Is it the fuel pump or filter?

i'd change the fuel filter first, it's cheap and easy to do. It could also be the fuel pressure regulator , but parking on a hill you may not have enough gas in the tank for the pump to pick it up easily either.

If my car won't start after replacing the fuel pump is it possible that my ECM has been blown? It also isn't getting fuel to through the injectors. I think it maybe the ECM not delievering fire to the injectors. Now I've tried to turn the engine over so many times that now my battery is dead. Where should I start in my quest to make the car drivible again?

When you turn key to run-Do you hear the fuel pump for a few secs? If so check the fuel pressure if its within specs with a gauge -start here and then let me know-Possibilities here-could be the fuel pump relay and the computer controlled of the fuel pump relay and ground circuit of the injectors-

sounds like a bad ground i would check the battery connections then all the black wires that are around the battery that are on the body and the connections on the starter if its not that then it might be the starter

That's what you pay mechanics to figure out. Assuming you didn't run out of gas, there's hundreds of electrical parts, wires, and connections in the fuel supply, ignition, and fuel injection systems that all have to work. A failure of any one of them will leave you sitting on the side of the road. GM fuel pumps are well-known for quitting while the engine is running, leaving you stranded on the highway. Other brands, Chryslers for example, most often fail by failing to start up so they leave you stranded at home or at work. Crankshaft position sensors and camshaft position sensors are common failure items too. They often fail when they get hot and work again after the engine cools down for an hour.
