I was told by a buddy of mine that in order for me to put a new oil pan on my Camaro that I have to pull the engine. Is that correct? Because, if I can swap out the oil pan without pulling the engine out than that would be great. Whoever owned the vehicle before me bottomed out with it pretty good. Luckily the crank is not hitting anything and the oil pan itself is not touching the oil pump. I was also wondering what is the best brand of rebuild kit I get for my Chevy 305 that's in my Camaro. Its fuel injected, I was wondering because I have to redo the valve guide's so I figured I might as well rebuild it you know.

When I change oil pains on an F-body car (Camaros, Trans Ams ect.) I jack the engine up. You have to remove the motor mount bolts but its alot easier then pulling the engine. Watch for parts that might damage the radiator though. If you see something thats going to hit something else. Take it out. Make sure theres plenty of room for the engine to move without damaging anything else.

You plan on rebuilding it anyway, pull it, do a GOOD rebuild and replace the pan at that time. As long as it isn't causing a problem now it can wait.

Yeah, I agree with SWilliams. While you have all that apart (if money permits), it would be a good thing to go with performance parts or higher quality. You should look everything over inside the pan and replace what you can. You'll be happy you did. You dont want to have to go through the "dropping the pan cycle" all over again.
