I have a 2000 Blazer that has been having stall or loss of power issues, I recently(3 months ago) gave it a tune up (plugs, wires, cap & rotor) so I did not think that was the problem. I was checking the ignition system out and looking at the pick up when I noticed the distributor cap terminals(inside) were burned at the 1 o'clock position (looking down) I cleaned the cap and then cleaned the rotor. The truck ran good for a few days and then it started acting up again. I changed the distributor cap & rotor a few weeks ago and it ran great for about 10 days, now its starting to act up again. What is causing the new cap terminals to burn so quickly? I had my ignition module checked and it checked fine, the only diagnostic code I get is a random engine misfire. After I changed the cap & rotor the misfire code cleared. It only comes back when the engine stalls or loses power.

High resistance is usally what burns up caps and rotors. What kind of parts did you use when you tuned it up?

I first used a Duralast cap & rotor from auto zone, the plugs are ac delco, and the plugs wires are the Duralast brand. When I changed the cap and rotor the second time I used borg warner parts from O'Reillys. I pulled a plug to check it for build up and it looks ok.

Did the problems start with the caps after the original tune up?I would use all A/C Dleco parts to start with.Higher quality than either of what you are using now, that is why they cost a little more
