Jack up and support vehicle. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove transfer case shield if equipped. Unbolt the front drive shaft from the yoke, Remove the yoke from the transfer case. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the encoder motor.

Install the new motor making sure to line up the shaft. Torque the bolts to the case to 13 ft. Pounds, Reconnect the electrical plug. Reinstall the yoke. Torque the nut to 92 ft pounds, reinstall the front shaft, torque the retainer straps to 27 foot pounds.

While you have it in the air I suggest checking the front shaft for wear, changing the transfer case lube and change the front shaft yoke seal. You'll kick yourself if you get done and it leaks.
