Engine Mechanical problem
1969 Chevy Blazer V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
Today I installed hei in my '69 blazer that had a points distributor. I took the positive from the coil, plugged it into the battery plug-in on hei cap. There was no spark. I unplugged it from the cap and ran wire from battery plug-in to the postive battery terminal. I got spark and it ran but it would not shut off with the key at the ignition. It had to be unplugged at the battery. Second part, in order for it to run, I had to crank my distributor all the way to the right to the point of not turning anymore. I have installed several of these hei's in '69 to '72 chevys without previous problems. What is your suggestion to give me more turning room on my cap and why it won't shut off?

I could be wrong but the wire you ran to the battery I think you should use the fuse box
and you need a circuit controlled by the ignition switch
test the circuit so it has power on it in two positions of the switch ON and in START position

as for the distributor I would remove it and or check if it a tooth or so OFF
